Popular Nigerian skit maker Emmanuel Chukwuemeka Ejekwu, widely known as Sabinus, has issued a heartfelt apology to fans of music star Ayodeji Balogun, popularly called Wizkid, following a controversial comment that sparked backlash.
In a viral video from a recent livestream, the comedian who became a father last year addressed the controversy head-on. He expressed deep regret over the misunderstanding and pleaded with Wizkid’s loyal fanbase, known as Wizkid FC, to forgive him.
Sabinus clarified that his comment was misinterpreted and never intended to disrespect the Grammy-winning artist. He stressed that his words were taken out of context and that he holds Wizkid in high regard.
Sharing more context, Sabinus recounted how Afrobeat sensation Burna Boy once offered him a massive opportunity by featuring him on an international platform one of the biggest of his career. He used this to question why he would deliberately slight another icon like Wizkid.
To reinforce his sincerity, Sabinus mentioned that he had already shared public apologies across his social media channels. During the livestream, members of Wizkid FC requested that he kneel as a gesture of remorse. Without hesitation, Sabinus complied and reiterated his apology.
His public apology comes shortly after fellow skit maker Carter Efe lost access to his Instagram and TikTok accounts. The suspension reportedly followed offensive remarks Efe made about Wizkid during a livestream, prompting fans to report his pages.
Sabinus’ approach, in contrast, appears to be a step toward making peace and mending ties with Wizkid’s devoted fan community.
