Nigerian Man Detained After Lady Passes Away Overnight at His Residence

  • A Nigerian man was detained by the police after a woman visited him and spent the night at his house, only to die later.

A Nigerian man has been detained by the police following the sudden death of a woman who visited and spent the night at his home.

The incident came to light through a post shared on X (formerly Twitter) by a user identified as @itsleeswhag, who revealed that the man involved is his distant cousin. According to the post, the lady had come over to spend the night but was tragically found dead the following morning.

“My distant cousin has been in police detention for over a month now because a woman came over to his place to spend the night, and he woke up the next day to discover that she was dead,” the post read.

@itsleeswhag also mentioned that he had recommended an autopsy to help uncover the cause of death, but the deceased’s family has not yet provided any feedback regarding that suggestion.

“I suggested the autopsy too, we haven’t gotten a feedback from the lady’s family,” he added.

As the story circulated online, it drew significant attention from concerned individuals, many of whom flooded the comment section to express shock, sympathy, and concerns over the legal implications for the man currently in detention.

Reacting to the post…

@Jeffosky1: “This is serious. It’s sad that the circumstances point to your cousin as a suspect but in grounding an action for manslaughter, there must be a nexus b/w the mens rea (intention) & actus reus (the wrongful act). The result of the autopsy is also important to prove cause of death.”

@Olori_Seun1: “He need a very good lawyer and AUTOPSY has to be done and make una pray well well say no be suffocation.”

@OlanmaDiamond: “Why haven’t police carried out autopsy, to know the cause of her death and stop tormenting him?”

@D_Ministar: “The prosecution would need to prove beyond reasonable doubt that he caused the death intentionally or through negligence. A good criminal defense lawyer should be able to challenge this and either secure bail or push for the case to move forward properly through the courts.”

@Adx0G: “The law said he will do jail except he has a concrete evidence that he doesn’t have a hand in it or he should get a good lawyer and autopsy should be done on the dead body.”

@Misturrah: “This is one thing i fear the most because how will he explain it 🤦🏾‍♀️ in a sane country proper investigation would be done.”
