Nigerian football icon, Peter Rufai, is dead; Orji Kalu mourns

The lawmaker representing Abia North Senatorial District, Senator Orji Uzor Kalu, has expressed deep sorrow over the passing of former Super Eagles goalkeeper and Nigerian football icon, Peter Rufai.

In a heartfelt tribute, the former Abia State Governor described Rufai as a true patriot who served Nigeria with pride and distinction.

“I am deeply saddened by the passing of Nigerian football legend, Peter Rufai. He was a true patriot who served our nation with pride and excellence,” Kalu said.

He extended his condolences to the Rufai family, the Nigerian football community, and all lovers of the game across the world.

Peter Rufai, fondly known as “Dodo Mayana,” was a key figure in Nigeria’s 1994 Africa Cup of Nations victory and represented the country in two FIFA World Cup tournaments.
