Minister Bosun Tijani Commissions Kano Digital Park After Vandalism Setback
The Minister of Communications, Innovation, and Digital Economy, Dr. Bosun Tijani, has commissioned the Digital Industrial Park (DIP) in Kano, a project expected to bolster digital growth and create new economic opportunities in Northern Nigeria.
The event, held at the project site, signaled the reopening of the facility which had been vandalized during the nationwide protest of August 1, 2024. Though completed last year, it was restored through the intervention of IHS Towers, a private firm involved in digital infrastructure development.
Speaking at the event on behalf of Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, Kano State Deputy Governor Aminu Abdussalam Gwarzo thanked the Minister for seeing the project through.
“Dr. Bosun Tijani’s decision to bring in private sector actors like IHS Towers to support digital projects demonstrates commitment to a collaborative model that works,” Gwarzo said. “This park represents opportunities for the youth and a turning point for the region’s digital economy.”
A representative of IHS Towers, Mr. Kazeem Oladepo, said the company was committed to supporting innovation and digital access in Kano.
“We are ready to work with the state government to drive inclusive digital development,” he said.
Dr. Tijani said the park was a key part of efforts to grow the digital ecosystem across the country.
“Kano is ready for digital transformation. The talent and drive here are clear,” he stated. “This project belongs to the people of Kano and Nigeria. I appreciate the State Government’s support in making it a reality.”
He also praised Kano’s strong participation in the Federal Government’s 3 Million Technical Talent (3MTT) programme, noting that the state had the highest number of applicants.
In recognition of his role, the Deputy Governor presented Tijani with a traditional sword and hat, conferring on him the honorary title Sarkin Yakin Digitalization (Grand Commander of Digitalization).
In a statement signed by the Commissioner for Information and Internal Affairs, Comrade Ibrahim Abdullahi Waiya, the state government said the DIP commissioning reflected what federal, state, and private collaboration can achieve.
“This is not just a facility; it is an investment in our youth and our future,” Waiya said. “It will boost innovation, create jobs, and help position Kano in the digital economy of the country.”
