A Nigerian man, who identified himself as Saliu Maja a former affluent car dealer once famously mentioned in the songs of Fuji icon King Wasiu Ayinde Marshall (KWAM 1 or K1 De Ultimate) has shared a deeply emotional account of his dramatic fall from grace.
In a video posted by content creator Charismatic Oba, Saliu opened up about how he once enjoyed wealth and admiration but now lives in hardship. He revealed that despite his father’s warnings, he failed to invest in real estate during his prosperous days.
His fortunes took a downturn after a trip to Canada with a friend involved in illicit activities, which ultimately led to their deportation in 1996. Since then, his life has been marked by struggle.
Saliu recalled an unsuccessful attempt to reconnect with KWAM 1 during the musician’s 40th birthday celebration, hoping to rekindle ties that once brought him recognition.
Now a father of four, he survives by hawking bottled drinks on the street, earning roughly ₦5,000 daily. Without a home of his own, he currently squats with others.
He appealed to kind-hearted Nigerians for help, expressing his desire to return to the automobile parts business the trade that once made him a household name.
Sharing the video Charismatic Oba, wrote in a caption,
“This thing called life is often filled with mysteries, it is even more scary that no one can fully determine what the outcome of a simple and straightforward decision can possibly be… Since I started this #streetinterview journey, I have come to appreciate people and their efforts more, some fought for as much as they could but still end up being where they don’t want to be. It is a sad world.”
