Kano Court Sentences Man to Death for Killing 3-Year-Old Girl

A Kano State High Court has sentenced a man, Aminu Muhammad, to death by hanging for the brutal murder of a three-year-old girl, Rafi’atu Junaidu.
Justice Maryam Sabo delivered the judgment on Wednesday, ending a trial that lasted seven years. She found Muhammad guilty of luring the child to a farm in Jibga village, Bebeji Local Government Area, where he strangled her, cut open her abdomen with a broken bottle, and removed her intestines.
“The court finds the accused guilty as charged and hereby sentences him to death by hanging,” Justice Sabo ruled, describing the crime as “inhuman and brutal.”
During the trial, the prosecuting counsel, Barrister Badawiyya Shehu Bala, called three witnesses whose testimonies, along with police findings, convinced the court that Muhammad committed the crime beyond reasonable doubt.
Court records revealed that in 2018, Muhammad took the child from her home under false pretenses before killing her on a nearby farm.
There were also chilling claims during the trial that Muhammad had offered N400,000 to an unknown person to commit the murder. However, the alleged accomplice remains unidentified, and investigations into that claim are still ongoing.
Justice Sabo said the sentence should serve as a warning to others and reaffirmed the court’s duty to uphold justice, especially in cases involving children.
