A newborn baby girl has been rescued after being found buried alive in a farmland in Kamba, located in Dandi Local Government Area of Kebbi State.
The discovery was made on June 27, 2025, by a farmer identified as Malam Kabiru Kamba, who was working on his land when he spotted a suspicious mound of soil. Alarmed by the unusual sight, he flagged down passing motorcyclists for assistance in digging up the area.
As they dug, they uncovered a piece of cloth, prompting Kabiru to immediately notify police officers nearby. Officers quickly arrived at the scene and continued the excavation, ultimately finding a crying baby girl buried beneath the earth.
The infant was miraculously still alive and was swiftly taken into care. Authorities have since launched an investigation to determine who was responsible for the shocking act.
In response to the incident, the Kebbi State Government, through the Gender-Based Violence Technical Working Group, has committed to informing the First Lady of the state, Hajiya Zainab Nasare Idris, to ensure further intervention, support, and protection for the child.
