Even If Tinubu Appoints Son as INEC Chair, APC Will Fall – Dalung

Former Minister of Youth and Sports Development, Solomon Dalung, says no amount of political maneuvering or appointments will save the All Progressives Congress (APC) from losing the 2027 general elections.

Speaking in an interview in Jos, Plateau State, Dalung dismissed speculations that strategic placements by President Bola Tinubu could guarantee electoral victory.

“Even if Tinubu appoints his son as INEC chairman and wife as CJN, APC will be defeated in 2027,” he said.

Dalung, who served under the Buhari administration, expressed deep frustration with the ruling party. He accused the government of abandoning the people and worsening their daily lives.

“I promise President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, even if 36 state governors defect to APC and he appoints Seyi Tinubu as the chairman of Independent National Electoral Commission, and he appoints his wife the Chief Justice of Nigeria, and INEC becomes the last institution to decamp to APC, they are going to be defeated in 2027, because it is we versus them,” he stated.

He accused the Tinubu administration of declaring war on ordinary Nigerians through policies that have deepened poverty and hardship.

“Nigerians should buckle up for 2027 because the battle line has been drawn by the government of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu which has declared war against the Nigerian people. The government has weaponised poverty, hunger, hardship and popularised corruption, impunity, and injustice. The only option we have now is to align with the coalition movement to reposition ourselves and confront the government in 2027,” Dalung said.

He described the APC as a refuge for corrupt politicians — a “conclave of sinners” — and warned that the surge of defections into the party would only lead to internal collapse, as the party lacks any real ideology to hold it together.

Dalung left the APC for the Social Democratic Party (SDP), citing a disappointing meeting with President Tinubu, whom he said struggled to understand the issues they discussed.

He didn’t hold back his criticism of the broader political elite either, calling the current leadership a kakistocracy — government by the worst and least capable — focused on serving the interests of a few at the expense of everyone else.
