Popular Nigerian media personality Ifedayo Olarinde, widely known as Daddy Freeze, has triggered widespread reactions online following comments he made questioning the integrity of Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate, Peter Obi.

During a recent appearance on The Honest Bunch Podcast, Daddy Freeze raised concerns about Obi’s political history, particularly his alleged involvement with the late military dictator, General Sani Abacha.

Although he acknowledged Obi’s intelligence and appeal, Freeze challenged the widespread perception of him as a clean and incorruptible leader. He specifically pointed to claims that Obi held a key position Managing Director of the Nigerian Ports Authority—during the Abacha era.

“I admire Peter Obi. He’s intelligent and articulate, but I struggle with the fact that he supposedly served under Abacha’s government. It’s difficult to reconcile that with the saintly image many people have of him today,” Freeze said.

Peter Obi, a former governor of Anambra State, gained massive grassroots support during the 2023 presidential election, finishing third behind APC’s Bola Tinubu and PDP’s Atiku Abubakar. Despite not clinching the presidency, his popularity has continued to rise, with many of his followers optimistic about a 2027 comeback.

Daddy Freeze’s remarks have since ignited debates across social media platforms, with some defending Obi’s record, while others echo Freeze’s concerns about transparency and political consistency.
