Social media commentator and activist Martins Vincent Otse, popularly known as Verydarkman, has responded to the Nigerian Police Force’s reaction to a recent viral video involving Nollywood actress Angela Okorie.
The video, which sparked widespread discussion online, showed Okorie jogging in public with a police officer running behind her an act that appeared staged or part of a film production. The police subsequently took disciplinary action against the officer seen in the clip.
Reacting to this development, Verydarkman took to social media to call out Police Public Relations Officer (PRO) Adejobi Olumuyiwa, accusing him of selective outrage and hypocrisy. He questioned why the police swiftly addressed Okorie’s video while seemingly overlooking more pressing security concerns.
According to Verydarkman, the video surfaced during the height of the Benue crisis, a time when several disturbing clips were also circulating. He emphasized that among those videos were ones showing young herdsmen visibly armed and accompanied by security forces, including military personnel and armored vehicles.
He played one such video and demanded that the police PRO publicly address the issue. In the footage, a herdsman is heard claiming that cattle do not produce guns, suggesting instead that the weapons in their possession were provided by political figures.
Verydarkman urged the Nigerian Police to shift focus to such serious threats and reassure citizens of their safety, rather than concentrating on viral entertainment clips. He expressed disappointment in Angela Okorie’s conduct, asserting that numerous legitimate security outfits are available to protect actors during shoots without involving the police.
However, he clarified that he doesn’t blame Okorie entirely. According to him, Nigerian politicians have normalized the misuse of police officers by employing them for personal errands, hosting duties, and party events in exchange for monetary favors.
Concluding his statement, Verydarkman dared the police PRO to follow through with the investigation of Okorie. He predicted that the actress might be invited for questioning or even detained under the pretext of official inquiries and challenged the authorities to take such actions if they truly believed in accountability.
