Sheik Jingir: I’ll Withdraw Support for Tinubu If Shettima Is Dropped

The National Chairman of the Ulam’u Council of Jama’atu Izalatil Bid’a Wa’ikamatis Sunnah (JIBWIS), Sheik Sani Yahaya Jingir, has warned that he will withdraw his support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu if the president drops Vice President Kashim Shettima ahead of the 2027 general elections, Daily Trust reports.

Sheik Jingir made the statement during a religious gathering at the Yantaya Mosque in Jos, Plateau State.

The Islamic cleric, who publicly backed Tinubu during the 2023 election and mobilized support among his followers, expressed disappointment over what he described as internal plots to undermine the Tinubu-Shettima partnership.

“I have learnt that some unpatriotic people within and outside the APC have been making efforts to destroy Tinubu’s relationship with Shettima to achieve their surreptitious goals. That is not a welcome development, President Tinubu,” Jingir said.

He emphasized that his support for the Tinubu-Shettima ticket was genuine and uncompromised, despite his personal closeness to former Vice President Atiku Abubakar.

“Myself and others around me supported Tinubu and Shettima, and we’re backing your joint ticket. Any attempt to drop Shettima—I wouldn’t support that move because they had earlier agreed to contest and work together. I supported them without taking a penny from them. Although I am close to Atiku Abubakar, I chose to vote for Tinubu and Shettima,” he explained.

Amid growing speculation within the APC about possible changes to the 2027 ticket, Jingir dismissed rumors of a rift between Tinubu and Shettima, blaming political detractors for stirring division.

“There are rumors circulating that things aren’t going well between them, but I don’t believe it. In my opinion, it’s the work of their enemies,” he added.

He concluded by urging President Tinubu to ignore those calling for Shettima’s removal, labeling such voices as enemies of progress.
