Notorious Bandit Kingpin, Turji Begs for Peace After Top Aide’s Death

Bello Turji, one of the most wanted bandit leaders in Nigeria’s North West, is reportedly reaching out for peace following the killing of his top field commander and cousin, Kachalla Yellow Danbokolo.

Danbokolo, described as the engine of Turji’s criminal operations, was recently neutralised by security forces.

The development was revealed in a post on X by counter-insurgency expert and security analyst, Zagazola Makama, who cited multiple sources.

According to Makama, Turji is said to be reaching out to other bandit groups for a possible meeting to explore surrender and peace talks with the governments of Zamfara, Sokoto, and Katsina States.

The death of Danbokolo, who played a central role in planning and carrying out deadly raids, ambushes, and mass kidnappings, is believed to have left Turji’s network severely weakened.

“Turji was mostly the public face. It was Danbokolo who led the fighting forces, ran the logistics, and enforced their authority in the forest corridors. This is the first time he has been truly exposed. Without Danbokolo, his operational muscles is crippled,” a source familiar with the group’s structure said.

Makama noted that while Turji’s peace gesture might appear as a move toward dialogue, security officials view it as a desperate attempt to regroup amid growing military pressure.

“Turji must not be forgiven. The government must reject his plea to surrender,” Makama said, citing intelligence sources.

So far, there has been no official statement from security agencies on Turji’s latest move.

Analysts, however, urge the government to proceed with caution, warning that any negotiations with him could be a trap.
