Controversial Nigerian singer, Darlington Okoye, popularly known as Speed Darlington, has responded after being declared wanted by the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP).
The agency’s declaration came after the singer shared a video online where he appeared to confess to engaging in sexual activity with a minor. The clip sparked widespread outrage and prompted an official reaction from NAPTIP, which labeled him a person of interest.
Reports soon emerged that Speed Darlington had fled the country to avoid arrest and interrogation by the agency.
In a defiant response, Speed Darlington took to social media, demanding that NAPTIP delete their post about him. He made it clear that he would not respond to their summons and dared the agency to produce evidence or identify the complainant involved in the case.
He repeatedly questioned who he had allegedly bullied and stressed that he never mentioned anyone by name in the controversial video. According to him, the entire issue was fueled by certain women who, he claims, reported him out of envy.
Darlington further stated that if the agency wanted his attention, they would need to pay him N2.5 million his standard fee for public appearances. He also threatened legal action, accusing the agency of tarnishing his image.
In a bizarre twist, the singer tried to tag NAPTIP in his post but mistakenly tagged an unrelated account, which amused many of his followers when they checked the wrong handle.
The situation has continued to generate mixed reactions on social media, with many questioning the legality and morality of Darlington’s statements.
