Nigeria Adds 120MW to National Grid
The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has announced that it successfully energized two newly installed power transformers at its 330/132/33kV transmission substation in Birnin Kebbi, Kebbi State, boosting power supply in the region.
According to the company’s spokesperson, Ndidi Mbah, the transformers—a 100 megavolt-ampere (MVA) unit and a 150 MVA unit—were energized at 1:18 p.m. and 2:56 p.m., respectively, on Friday, June 27, 2025.
Mbah explained that the new installations have increased the substation’s capacity from 300 MVA to 450 MVA.
As a result of the upgrade, the Kaduna Electricity Distribution Company now has an additional 120 megawatts (MW) of bulk electricity for distribution to customers in Kebbi, Sokoto, and surrounding areas.
The upgrade also enables TCN to continue supplying bulk electricity to Niamey in the Niger Republic.
“We are committed to the continued expansion and maintenance of the nation’s transmission system to ensure more effective and efficient bulk power transmission nationwide,” Mbah said.
