Governor Yahaya Flags Off Wet Season Farming Support

Gombe State Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya has flagged off the distribution of subsidized fertiliser to farmers as part of the state’s support for the 2025 wet season farming.

At the event on Thursday, Governor Yahaya said the initiative is intended to boost crop production and make fertiliser more accessible to farmers across the state.

“The government has procured 10,000 tons of NPK 20:10:10 fertiliser at the cost of N44,000 per bag but will sell it to farmers at N27,000 per bag to ease their financial burden,” he said.

To ensure transparency, the governor directed the State Ministry of Agriculture, Animal Husbandry and Cooperatives to work closely with security agencies to monitor the sales and distribution.

He stressed the importance of reaching the actual farmers, particularly those in rural communities.

Governor Yahaya also cautioned both farmers and herders to avoid activities that could trigger conflicts. “Farmers should stay away from grazing reserves and cattle routes, while herders must avoid farmlands until after harvest,” he said.

Commissioner for Agriculture, Animal Husbandry and Cooperatives, Dr. Barnabas Malle, appealed to local government chairmen and community leaders to cooperate with ministry officials during the fertiliser distribution process.

Meanwhile, the State Coordinator of the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security, Mr. Absalom Akwaras Lansibol, praised the state’s effort, saying: “We commend the Gombe State government for providing timely and affordable farm inputs to farmers.”
