Federal Lawmaker Kabiru Rurum Mourns Elder Statesman Aminu Dantata

The Member Representing Rano, Kibiya, and Bunkure Federal Constituency, Hon. Kabiru Alhassan Rurum (Turakin Rano), has joined other Nigerians in mourning the death of Alhaji Aminu Alhassan Dantata, who passed away on Saturday in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates, at the age of 94.

In a condolence message, Rurum described Dantata’s death as “the end of a remarkable era in the history of commerce and philanthropy in Northern Nigeria.”

“The news of his demise came as a shock not only to the people of Kano State but also to the entire nation,” Rurum said. “Alhaji Aminu Dantata was more than just a businessman; he was a symbol of humility, generosity, and foresight, who used his God-given resources to uplift others and build institutions that continue to serve Nigeria across generations.”

Rurum said the late Dantata left behind a legacy that touched many lives.

“In Kano and beyond, his name opened doors of hope to many struggling families, students, widows, and aspiring entrepreneurs,” he noted. “His investments created jobs, empowered communities, and stimulated local economies.”

He highlighted Dantata’s roles in education, religion, and community development, and praised his exemplary conduct throughout his life.

“His humility in the face of wealth, his calm demeanor in times of challenge, and his sincere belief in the power of giving serve as an inspiration to the younger generation of business leaders and politicians alike,” Rurum said. “He taught us, by example, that wealth finds its true meaning when it is shared for the common good.”

Rurum offered his condolences to the Dantata family and all those affected by the loss.

“To the Dantata family, I extend my deepest sympathies. I pray that Allah (SWT) grants you the strength to bear this monumental loss,” he said. “To the government and people of Kano State, and indeed the entire nation, this is a collective loss. We mourn not just a man but a legacy — a bridge between the past and the future, a soul who always put the community before self.”

He concluded with a message to younger Nigerians.

“I urge the younger generation to study and emulate his life — his simplicity, discipline, and undiluted dedication to humanity. These are values our country sorely needs at this time,” Rurum stated. “Alhaji Aminu Dantata has run his race, and he has run it well. May his soul rest in perfect peace. Ameen.”
