NOSDRA DG Visits Rivers Community To Assess Gas Leakage, Fire Incident

In line with the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the Director-General of the National Oil Spill Detection and Response Agency (NOSDRA), Engr. Emeka Woke recently visited Buguma City in Asari-Toru Local Government Area, Rivers State.
The visit was to conduct an on-the-spot assessment of the gas leakage and fire incident from the wellhead at Buguma Well 8.
The well, operated by the Nigeria National Petroleum Corporation Limited (NNPCL), experienced a leak, which was reported to NOSDRA.
Woke reassured the people of Buguma, the general public, and stakeholders to remain calm and avoid any form of bunkering activities that could further complicate the situation.
“We are investigating the root cause of the fire and the gas leak,” Woke emphasised.
His visit aimed to evaluate the extent of the incident and coordinate efforts for an immediate and effective response.
Woke was accompanied by a team of experts, including Dr Yusuf Rigasa, Director of Oil Field Assessment; Ime A. Ekanem, Zonal Director for the Port Harcourt office; Ken Aroh, Head of the National Representation Lab; Ismail Ahmed, Assistant Coordinator of Environmental Services (ACES) for Port Harcourt Zonal Office; and Mary Ighomuaye, Public Relations and Environmental Services Officer for the NRL in Port Harcourt.
