No Cause for Alarm: FG Confirms Third Mainland Bridge Safe, Sound

The Federal Government has dismissed rumors circulating on social media that the Third Mainland Bridge in Lagos is shaking and unsafe, describing the claims as baseless and politically motivated.

Reports had emerged on platforms like WhatsApp and Facebook alleging that a section of the iconic 11-kilometer bridge had opened up, causing it to shake.

However, the Federal Controller of Works in Lagos State, Mrs. Olukorede Kesha, refuted these claims during an inspection tour of the bridge with journalists on Thursday.

Speaking during the tour, Kesha assured Lagosians and Nigerians that the bridge remains structurally sound and safe for use.

“The honourable minister has directed that I come out and tell Lagosians and Nigerians that there is nothing wrong with the bridge,” Kesha said.

She attributed the rumors to mischief-makers attempting to create unnecessary panic.

“The rumour is the handiwork of mischief columnists – those who are idle and think that the political atmosphere is too quiet for them,” she added.

Journalists accompanied Kesha as she inspected the entire length of the bridge, both driving and walking along it.

The tour confirmed there were no visible defects or structural concerns.

“We drove round this, we came back, and we saw that there is nothing amiss,” Kesha said.

She reiterated that the bridge’s integrity is not in doubt and encouraged the public to disregard the false claims.

Kesha used the opportunity to reassure the motoring public, stating, “After all, it is the same bridge that we ply, Lagosians ply, and the ministry’s officials ply.”

The Federal Government has urged Nigerians to rely on verified information from credible sources and avoid spreading unverified claims that could incite fear.

The Third Mainland Bridge, one of Lagos State’s key infrastructures, remains safe for daily use, according to government officials.
