Lagos Probes Mysterious Death Of 2-Year-Old Schoolgirl

The Lagos State Government has launched an investigation into the sudden and tragic death of a two-year-old pupil at Smiley Kids Montessori School in Sangotedo, Lagos Island.

According to the mother of the 2-year-old who shared the sad news on her X handle, Ellla@AbiaPrincess_X, the tragedy happened on Wednesday, January 15.

The bereaved mother, who demanded answers regarding the death, stated that the school had informed her that her daughter drowned in the school’s swimming pool.

She, however, alleged that she discovered the child was electrocuted but they put the body in the pool to make it look like drowning.

She shared a picture of the pool with a high barricade to keep children away and queried how a two-year-old could have climbed over the barricade.

She called on the Lagos State Government to investigate.

“Dear Lagos state Government, Our daughter of 2years old, went to school yesterday and did not return alive.

“How do you have a pool in school premises without proper monitoring?😭

“They lied she drowned in the pool but we have been able to find out it’s Electrocution, and they dropped her in the pool to look as if it was drowning.

“Now they are lying to other parents that school is closed because of maintenance instead of telling the truth.

“If nothing is done to close down that school other parents may cry for their own kids attending the school.

“The pool has barricades. How can a child of 2yrs climb?

“Please help us get Justice for our baby. She just celebrated her 2yr birthday in November last year, left home well for school on 15/1/2024 and never came back alive.

In another post, she said, “Smiley School International, Sangotedo, Lagos Island, please, bring her back. We cannot bear this alone.

“Please, if you have your child in that school beware. They lied they are closed due to maintenance. I lost my Pinky Ella,” she wrote on her X handle.

Speaking on the issue, the Permanent Secretary, Lagos State Domestic and Sexual Violence Agency, Mrs.Titilayo Adeniyi-Vivour, stated that the government will investigate the incident to ensure that justice is achieved.

“The Lagos State Task Force on Safeguarding and Child Protection, which comprises top level representatives of the relevant Ministries, Agencies and Departments, MDAs, including Office of Education Quality Assurance, DSVA, Ministry of Youth and Social Development, Lagos State Safety Commission, is visiting the school today on a fact find mission.

“Similarly, we have since been in touch with the Police (Ogombo) and we are going to the State Criminal Investigation Department, SCID, Panti, to support with the criminal investigation of the case and possible prosecution,” she said.
