President Bola Tinubu has granted approval for the Ibadan domestic airport in Alakia to be upgraded to an international airport.
This announcement was made by the elated Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State on Wednesday at the State Government House in Ibadan.
โThe President has graciously approved my request for the upgrade of Ibadan Airport to an International Airport,โ Governor Makinde stated.
This decision follows a previous call by the ninth Senate, led by Ahmad Lawan, for the federal Ministry of aviation and other relevant authorities to upgrade the airport. During a plenary session, Senator Kola Balogun (PDP-Oyo South) presented a motion titled โThe need to upgrade the Airport with modern facilities,โ which was co-sponsored by 37 senators.
The then Senate President referred the motion to the Senate Committee on Aviation for further legislative action after it received unanimous approval.
