Four Arrested For Operating Hard Drug Bunk In Abia

Security operatives have arrested four persons and confiscated some illicit drugs in Aba, Abia State.

The bunk was raided by the operatives of the stateโ€™s joint security task force, and officials of the Greater Aba Development Authority (GADA) on the orders of the Governor Alex Otti.

The operatives also destroyed and burnt the shanties erected by the hoodlums who use them for their hideout.

The bunk, popularly known as โ€œBlack Kingdomโ€, is notorious for buying and selling hard drugs and has been raided by security agencies, including officials of the National Law Drug Enforcement Agency (NDLEA).

Attempts to stop the group had in the past yielded little or no result as they regrouped to continue with their illegal activities days or weeks after such raids. They started raising shanties which served as their makeshift homes in the bunk.

The hoodlums have continued to terrorise, rob and dispossess residents, visitors and shop owners of their valuables.

Director-General GADA, Mr. Uche Ukeje said: โ€œThe raiding of the Black Kingdom was on the orders of Governor Alex Otti, following security concerns around the bunk and activities of those that have converted the bunk as their safe haven.

โ€œApart from raiding the bunk, the governor has directed that the operatives of the Operation Crush will be using the area as their operational base.

โ€œThe idea behind the decision of the governor to approve that the Operation Crush use the location as their operational base is to make sure that those who use the bunk to commit all manner of atrocities are permanently dislodged from the area.

โ€œAba is important to the governor and he has promised that Aba will take its pride of place in the economy of the state, southeast and the country at large.

โ€œAnd to ensure that the state was rid of criminals, the state has decided to be proactive rather than reactionary, by going to their camps to dislodge them and take possession of their locations.

โ€œIt has started yielding positive results and we are going to sustain the tempo to ensure that the state is safe for residents and investors to have confidence in the government, which has vowed to make the state for economic and business activities to thrive.โ€
