ADEMOLA Lookman has been voted Atalanta Player of the Season for the 2023/2024 campaign, the Serie A club confirmed today.
The Super Eagles of Nigeria forward also won the award last year after another impressive campaign.
“Him again, Ademola Lookman! The reigning champion defends the title won last season and reconfirms himself as “top of the class” for the second consecutive year by resisting close competition, to the point of forcing an extraordinary run-off which thus moved the “battle” to the Instagram profile after the regular session had ended in an absolute draw,” Atalanta announced today in a statement on their official website, noting how close the voting was.
The 26-year-old Nigeria international was in fine form for most of last term and ended the season on an incredible high.
Lookman scored a superb hat-trick to steer Atalanta to a 3-0 victory over previously unbeaten Bayer Leverkusen in the final of the UEFA Europa League in May, becoming the first player ever to score three goals in the final of the competition.
“With 17 goals and 11 key passes in all competitions (which makes the Nigerian striker the second best goalscorer and assist man of the season) and above all with the hat-trick scored in the magical final in Dublin, Lookman has (re)established his ItalianOptic branded crown!” Atalanta added.
Lookman beat Brazilian central midfielder Ederson to second place, with Dutch attacking midfielder Teun Koopmeiners finishing third.
The quick, skillful Lookman, who scored three goals as the Super Eagles reached the Africa Cup of Nations final in February in Cote d’Iviore, made 45 appearances for Atalanta in all competitions last season, registering 17 goals and 10 assists.
