Headquarters of new Ondo LCDAs won’t change – Assembly

Ondo State House of Assembly

The Ondo State House Assembly has warned against an attempt to change the headquarters of the newly created Local Council Development Areas which had been sited by the state government.

The 33 LCDAs were created by the state government while the House of Assembly approved the interim management committee for the areas.

But in a statement on Thursday by the Assembly’s spokesman and Chairman of the House Committee on Information Mr Olatunji Oshati,  the Speaker, Mr Olamide Oladiji, gave the warning.

It was gathered that some people had been agitating for the change of the headquarters of the LCDAs. Some were planning to protest against the location of the headquarters.

The House said there was a need for all the stakeholders to follow due process on the matter of the LCDAs.

The Speaker, who noted that due process was followed to select the headquarters of the LCDAs, called on everybody to embrace the decision and support the government in its drive to bring about development to Ondo State.

He said, “The headquarters as listed in the enacted law have come to stay and anybody with the ulterior motive to take the laws into his hands to change these names under any disguise without following the due process will face the wrath of the law as they would be acting ultra vires.”

Oladiji added that apart from the fact that the LCDAs would bring about rapid development and growth to the state, particularly at the grassroots levels, it would also provide job opportunities for the youths in the state.

Governor Rotimi Akeredolu sent the list of the interim chairmen of the LCDAs to the Assembly last week for approval. The nominees were screened and approved by the Assembly. They were also sworn in on the same day.
