Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part One director David Yates explains why the penultimate film in the epic saga shouldn't have actually worked as its own story. Based on the beloved novels by J.K. Rowling, the first movie in the franchise was released in 2001. Yates joined the franchise in 2007 with Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, ultimately staying on for all three of the remaining sequels.
