Legolas' book character is fairly different from the one seen in Peter Jackson's Lord of the Rings trilogy, but there are plenty of canon mannerisms that actor Orlando Bloom portrayed perfectly. Though the elf was an important part of the Fellowship of the Ring responsible for guiding Frodo and the One Ring to Mordor, Legolas went relatively unexplored in Tolkien's works. This is especially surprising considering the amount of lore and backstory-building the author often developed for his characters. Still, there were some key aspects of Legolas' personality that Tolkien made clear in the Lord of the Rings books, and Bloom brought these, and more, to life.
