Spawn creator Todd McFarlane reveals how close writers were to finishing the movie reboot script before the WGA strike halted work. 1997 saw the release of the first movie adaptation of McFarlane’s cult classic comic book, following the exploits of a dead Marine brought back to life as the leader of Hell’s army. Making a follow-up to the successful film has unfortunately proven a hellish task, one McFarlane has been toiling away at since 1998. Now with Blumhouse on-board, and Jamie Foxx tapped for the lead role, Spawn is finally headed back to the big screen, with a targeted release date in 2025.
