One fan-favorite MCU character was originally planned to be killed off in Phase 2's Thor: The Dark World, which would have had a serious impact on the future of the MCU and the Multiverse Saga's popularity. After debuting as Thor in 2011's eponymous solo project and helping to found the titular team in 2012's The Avengers, Chris Hemsworth returned in 2013's Thor: The Dark World, now as a world-renowned superhero. The Phase 2 film dealt directly with the events of The Avengers, particularly Tom Hiddleston's Loki's attack on New York City, though Thor: The Dark World explored something of a redemption story for the villain that originally ended in tragedy.
