Lagos driver stabs LASTMA official, strips self naked

A yet-to-be-identified Lagos driver has allegedly stabbed an officer of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority after a disagreement at the Costain Roundabout area of Lagos.

PUNCH Metro gathered that the incident occurred on Sunday after the driver was accosted by the officers for allegedly obstructing the road with his vehicle.

In a video that went viral online, the driver was seen stripping himself naked inside his commercial yellow bus with number plate LSR 966 YE.

He was heard telling the officers, “You can’t take this vehicle away from here,” as he also kept making calls with a mobile phone in his hand.

Another voice was heard telling LASTMA officers who had sat in the bus, one of them sitting in the driver’s seat, not to mind the driver. “This man will be jailed,” a voice was heard saying in the video.

In another video obtained by our correspondent, the driver who had gone naked and caused a scene was seen standing on a vehicle suspected to belong to the LASTMA officers.

The vehicle had the inscription ‘Zone 3, Surulere.’

However, reacting in a statement posted on its X handle @followlastma on Sunday afternoon, the traffic agency alleged that the driver stabbed one of its officers with a knife before he was later arrested by policemen.

“After several warnings by the government to commercial bus drivers on the need to stop causing obstructions to other road users, a recalcitrant commercial T4 bus (LSR 966 YE) was apprehended on Sunday by LASTMA personnel for causing serious obstruction to other road users around the Costain roundabout.

“The driver of the apprehended commercial T4 bus caused serious commotion by stripping himself naked in public after stabbing a LASTMA officer with a knife.

The naked driver was eventually arrested by policemen from Iponri Police Station with the directive of the Divisional Police Officer,” the statement read.
