Big Brother 2 houseguest Monica Bailey suffered a terrible tragedy during her time on the show, when her cousin, Tamitha Freeman, was killed in the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks. Monica, who at the time was a candy store manager from Bedford-Stuyvestant in Brooklyn, New York, is known for placing third on the reality competition series. During Big Brother 2, she became the first-ever Black contestant to win a Head of Household (HOH) competition. She was also the first houseguest to win an endurance HOH competition.
