An unresolved plot line in a TV show can be endlessly frustrating, but when done right an ambiguous storyline can add to a show, making the story more complex and interesting. When a show is prematurely canceled, like My Name is Earl or Veronica Mars, the ambiguous ending frustrates fans for years, as they will never know what happened to their favorite characters, despite the writers having more story to tell. However, that frustration can be used by the writers to craft more complex stories and feelings for their audiences, and weirdly make the unsatisfying satisfying.
