Sen Athan defeats Gen Ogunewe to emerge Imo LP guber candidate

Senator Athan Achonu emerged as Imo State Labour Party flag bearer late Saturday night for the November 11 governorship election following the party’s gubernatorial primaries.

The erstwhile senator for Okigwe zone polled 134 votes to defeat his closest rival retired Major-General Lincoln Ogunewe who scored 125 votes, while Chief Martins Agbaso came a distant third with just 13 votes.

The returning officer for the Governor Primary election, Dr Alex Otti, the Abia State governor-elect, who declared the result, announced that Senator Athan Achonu scored 134 votes, while Major-General Lincoln Ogunewe came second with 125 votes, Chief Martins Agbaso scored 13 votes, Capt David Mbaram 5 votes, Dr Charles Ugomuoh 1 vote.
