Splinter is widely believed to be the good and wise leader of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, whose teachings have led the Turtles to greatness, but while he may have raised heroes, Splinter is all too aware that he'll never escape his villainous past. In the more kid-friendly adaptations of Splinter, he is kind, patient, and even silly – but that was not the case in the original version, introduced in Mirage Studios’ Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles #1 by Kevin Eastman and Peter Laird.
