In a major development that once again proves the heydays of NFTs have well and truly passed, Meta is ending support for the technology on Facebook and Instagram. While NFTs have existed since 2014, they became a rage during the pandemic, with people buying and selling images and other digital collectibles for millions of dollars. While sales volumes peaked in 2021, things slowed down last year, particularly after the spectacular crash of FTX. At the height of the NFT boom, Meta announced plans to allow users to mint and trade NFTs on its platforms, but the company has now seemingly had a change of heart.
