SHC issues notices to FIA, SECP in case of cryptocurrencies

KARACHI-Sindh High Court (SHC) on Friday issued notices to the finance secretary and State Bank authorities in the crypto currency.

The director general of the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) and the authorities of the Securities and Exchange Commission of Pakistan (SECP) also received notices.

The court summoned Farhan Ali Bilal, the FIA’s Cybercrime Investigation Officer, on February 21, and also sent a notice to the Deputy Attorney General. “There is no law in Pakistan regarding cryptocurrency. How can you act on an issue that has no law? Lawyer Rizwan Ali Qadri argued in court.

“The FIA sent notices to my client Muhammad Saleem Butt [despite the fact that] the SHC issued a directive in the case of Waqar Zaka,” he added. “Cryptocurrency-related petitions are still pending. The FIA citation notice must be suspended,” he demanded.

It should be noted here that the FIA cybercrime notice regarding cryptocurrency is pending at the SHC.
