Ebonyi State’s Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) chair, Okorie Okoroafor, has been suspended for alleged anti-party conduct.
According to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), PDP spokesperson Dele Ologunagba announced in a statement on Friday in Abuja.
Ologunagba stated that the suspension was approved at an emergency meeting of the PDP NWC held on Friday in Abuja.
The PDP’s National Working Committee (NWC), acting on behalf of the PDP’s National Executive Committee (NEC), has authorised Okoroafor’s suspension, effective as of Friday, January 27th, per Sections 29 (2)(b) and 57(3) of the PDP’s constitution (as modified).
He explained that the reason for his suspension was because of “allegations of anti-party activities and violations of provisions of Section 58(1) of the PDP constitution (as amended in 2017).”
Ologunagba further stated that the suspended PDP chairman had been submitted to the relevant disciplinary committee within the party.
Sources told NewsXtra that Okoroafor’s suspension was related to his refusal to appear at a rally in the state for PDP presidential candidate Atiku Abubakar. The PDP did not provide details of the alleged anti-party conduct against Okoroafor.
The Ebonyi State chapter of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) has been accusing him of being “in romance” with the state’s ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
Recently, members of the PDP have been suspended for anti-party activities.
Most recently, the party suspended Chimaroke Nnamani, a former governor of Enugu State and a senatorial nominee for the state’s Enugu East District, for engaging in similar anti-party activities.
It was said that Nnamani supported Bola Tinubu, the presidential candidate for the APC.
The former governor was one of ten people suspended after being suspected of wrongdoing.
