In a bid to provide easy access to information and advice on wide range of issues such as the violation of human rights, environmental and other related matters, relationships, legal rights, family inheritance and responsibilities, the Lagos State Government has taken a further step to sensitise members of the public on the benefits of Public Advice Centre.
The centre took the campaign to the Mushin area of Lagos on Wednesday to sensitise the community on the benefits of PAC
Speaking on Wednesday during the sensitisation programme, the Solicitor General and Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Justice, Ms Titilayo Shitta-Bey, said PAC was established to advise the public on how to interact with different government agencies, ministries, and departments.
She said the centre interfaces on behalf of the people and helps them to solve any issue that the people or the community has.
Shitta-Bey staed, “What the PAC does is to intervene in your matter, peradventure you have issues with any of the ministries. You can approach them and explain your situation to them. They will interface on your behalf and find a solution to the problem and try to resolve it. It’s mainly a kind of liaison between the public and the different MDAs.
“We have done several advocacies because it’s an annual event but it takes different forms, the impact can be felt from the number of complaints we get from the advocacy, so you make people aware.”
Also speaking, the Director of PAC, Mrs Akinnawo Husseina, said they offer free legal advice to residents of the state seeking to know their rights and responsibilities on a wide area of subjects like marital matters, domestic violence, tenancy matter, etc.
She said, “The purpose of this enlightenment programme is to further enlighten members of the public about the advisory and referral services. It also gives us the opportunity to market the policies of the state, and we are also expected to tell them how they are going to access the policies of the state.”
