- A Wikipedia user named Anthony Devolder made elaborate claims about his experience as an actor.
- The name is a known alias for Republican Rep. George Santos, who has made false claims about his past.
- The Wiki bio also says the user crawled, something Santos has denied ever doing.
A Wikipedia user by the name of Anthony Devolder, a well-known alias for embattled Republican Rep. George Santos, made a number of fantastic claims about his acting record, saying he appeared in two hit Disney Channel shows and a movie alongside the Oscar-nominated actress. Uma Thurman.
The Wikipedia page featuring the user’s biography, which Politico first reported on Friday, has since been removed but was still accessible in the Internet archives. The biography, which appears to have been last edited on April 29, 2011, is riddled with typos and misspellings. It also includes details that align with Santos, including saying that the user was born on July 22, 1988 into a Brazilian family with a European background.
It goes on to say that “Anthony Devolder started his life on the ‘stage’ at age 17 as a DRAG QUEEN in a gay nightclub and with that earned him several GAY ‘BEAUTY PAGENTS’.”
Santos, who is openly gay, this week denied performing in drag after multiple people told the media, including Insider, that they used to know him as a drag performer in Brazil.
The Wiki bio says that Devolder “got his footing early in his career where he got his start on a few TV shows and DISNEY Channel shows” including “The Suite Life of Zack and Cody” and “Hannah Montana.” He also said that he “shot her first film in 2009”, which was called “THE INVASION” and she starred in “Uma Turman”, apparently a misspelling of Uma Thurman.
It is unclear which film the bio was referring to. In 2007 a movie called “The Invasion” was released, but starring Nicole Kidman and Daniel Craig, not the “Pulp Fiction” actress. No “Anthony Devolder,” or George Santos, was listed on the IMDb cast.
A representative for Santos did not immediately respond to Insider’s request for comment.
Santos has used the name Anthony Devolder in the past. In a recently resurfaced video, Santos introduced himself as Anthony Devolder at an event in New York City in 2019 that featured conservative commentators who were part of the LGBTQ community. He has also on several occasions included his full name as George Anthony Devolder Santos. He also went by the name George Devolder in social media posts in 2020. CNN informed.
Politico noted that if the Wiki biography was not written by Santos, that would mean it was written by someone who, more than a decade ago, used Santos’ alias and biographical details.
The biography is the latest development related to the fabrications and embellishment of the New York congressman. Santos has been accused of lying about his job and educational history, how his mother died and his inheritance.
