Peter Obi’s Camp Alleges Plots To Sabotage PVC Collection

Labour Party’s Presidential Campaign Council (PCC) has raised concerns over alleged plots by some forces to sabotage the collection of Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) across states.

With less than 94 days remaining before the commencement of the 2023 general elections, the Obi-Datti Media Office alleged in a statement on Wednesday, November 23, that reports at its disposal revealed that the collection of PVCs was not going smoothly in some centres across the country.

“Our attention was drawn in particular to Lagos State where in some identified areas prospective voters wishing to collect their voter’s cards are being frustrated with all kinds of excuses disrupting the PVC collection,” the Obi-Datti camp said.

The Labour Party camp expressed fears over the pre-election activities.

Meanwhile, the Labour Party on Wednesday condemned the Federal government’s alleged grounding of the party’s campaign plane in Lagos.

Naija News reported that supporters of the LP Presidential candidate, Peter Obi, and some party chieftains were prevented from boarding the plane to their rally in Ibadan, Oyo State capital.

In a statement on Wednesday, the Head of Media for the Obi-Datti Presidential Campaign Organisation, Diran Onifade, said the plane was grounded at the Lagos airport by the ‘powers that be’, citing “regulatory reasons.”

Following the development, LP National Chairman Julius Abure confirmed that the grounded plane was meant to convey the party’s National Working Committee (NWC) and National Executive Committee (NEC) members to the Ibadan rally.

Abure, however, said the party was not worried by the grounded plane, stressing that the “powers that be” have been using every opportunity to frustrate its campaign activities.

In an interview with The Punch on Wednesday night, he said, “We have just finished our rally in Ibadan. It is true that the plane meant to convey our NWC and NEC members for the campaign was grounded by the powers that be. But we were not deterred by the plane that was grounded.

“This is what we have been saying about this country. It is not the first time it is happening. They have been using every opportunity to ensure we don’t get to do anything in this country.”
