Kano man, son suffocate while draining well

A 60-year-old father, Malam Bala, and his son, Sunusi Bala, 35, have died in a well at Sabon Garin Bauchi, in the Wudil Local Government Area of Kano State.

The victims were draining the water in the well when the incident happened.

A spokesperson for the state fire service, Saminu Abdullahi, in a statement, said the incident occurred on Tuesday.

He said, “We received an emergency call from the Wudil Fire Station around 11.30am from one Isma’ila Idris that two men were trapped inside a well.

”We immediately sent our rescue team to the scene around 11.33am.

“On arrival, the rescue team discovered that a father and his son were engaged to drain a well, which they did successfully.

“Not satisfied, the son went back into the well to further clear it but was trapped in the process and suffocated.

“Thereafter, his distressed father ventured into the well to rescue his son but, like his son, got trapped and suffocated due to a lack of oxygen inside the well.”

The statement noted that the victims were recovered from the well unconscious, and later confirmed dead.
