Fantastic Four Art Argues Stranger Things Star Should Play Reed Richards

Artist SPDRMNKYXIII’s latest piece casts Stranger Things‘ Joseph Quinn as the MCU’s main version of Reed Richards in the upcoming Fantastic Four movie. Quinn portrayed heavy-metal rocker and dungeon master Eddie Munson in season 4 of Netflix’s hit 80s-based sci-fi series. Fantastic Four is currently slated to be released on Nov. 8, 2024 as the opening film of Phase 6.

Created by Stan Lee and Jack Kirby in 1961, Reed Richards was the brilliant scientist who invented an experimental spacecraft that he, Sue Storm, Johnny Storm, and Ben Grimm would pilot and ultimately be bombarded by cosmic rays. Altered like the rest of his crew, Reed was given the ability to extend and stretch his body into any shape he required, taking on the superhero alter ego of Mister Fantastic as he and the rest of the crew formed the Fantastic Four. While Doctor Strange and the Multiverse of Madness introduced and brutally murdered a Mister Fantastic Variant portrayed by John Krasinski, the character and his team are already set to make a return in the MCU’s future in their own solo movie. Although Earth-616’s Reed Richards is currently uncast, one artist has imagined a breakout star of Stranger Things season 4 taking on the role.

On his Instagram, artist SPDRMNKYXIII shared a recent piece of his that imagined Stranger Things‘ Quinn as one of Marvel’s smartest individuals. In the artwork, Quinn can be seen using his powers to extend his limbs, while the actor is depicted with a uniform resembling Krasinski’s costume, along with the character’s iconic graying hair. The artwork also includes other nods to wider Marvel lore, including Doctor Doom’s Time Platform that Krasinski’s Variant used to make his entrance in Multiverse of Madness. As revealed by Multiverse of Madness director Sam Raimi, Krasinski’s casting was inspired by fan demand, which was voiced through art and online posts fan-casting the actor in the role. As revealed in the audio commentary for Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, Marvel Studios head Kevin Feige approached the director to include Krasinski in response to fan demand. Raimi elaborated and stated they felt that they would have the freedom to include the cameo due to the Illuminati’s Reed being from an alternate universe.

While Krasinski has already become the first actor to portray the character in the MCU, there is no guarantee he will reprise his role in future MCU movies or shows. And while Quinn’s popular role as the beloved heavy metal rocker Eddie may seem like a far cry from Reed Richards, Eddie’s moments of regret in Stranger Things season 4 show Quinn could portray Reed’s guilt over his role in the cosmic ray incident, as well as his compassion for his family. While fan-casting doesn’t impact Marvel Studios’ decisions, it allows fans to picture how the future of the MCU may be shaped in anticipation of upcoming projects. To that end, SPDRMNKYXIII’s artwork is a fun way to imagine if Quinn were to trade the Hawkins group in the Upside Down for the Fantastic Four in the Negative zone.
