Glendale, Ariz. (AP) — Arizona Cardinals running back coach James Saxon has been charged with two counts of domestic battery stemming from an alleged incident in Indianapolis in May.
One of the counts is a felony that involves domestic battery in the presence of a child under the age of 16.
A lawyer representing Saxon did not immediately respond to a request for comment on the matter on Friday.
Cardinals coach Cliff Kingsbury said the Saxons have been placed on administrative leave. Kingsbury said the team was aware of Saxon’s arrest when it happened in May.

“We are aware of the incident and have notified the NFL as necessary,” the Cardinals said in a statement. “The matter is currently under review in accordance with the policies of the League. Following consultation with the League Office, James has been placed on paid administrative leave. We will have no further comment pending additional proceedings. ,
ESPN was the first to report the arrest.
Saxon is a longtime running back coach who has been with the Cardinals since 2019. He was the running back coach for the Dolphins from 2000 to ’19. He played eight years in the NFL from 1988 to ’95.
According to online records, the next step in Saxon’s case is on August 25, when a lawyer’s conference is scheduled.
