I worked as undertaker to raise money for my career – Comedian

Comedian, Oghenekowhoyan Desmond, aka Destalker, has recounted how he once worked as an undertaker in a bid to raise money for his comedy career.

Destalker, who is currently planning for his show that will hold at Eko Hotel and Suites, Vitoria Island, Lagos, in August noted that he usually laughs when people say ‘he came from nowhere’ before getting to this level in his career.

In a statement sent to Saturday Beats, he said, “I laugh really hard when I hear people say that I came out of nowhere. I have been in Lagos for almost 14 years doing comedy. However, it wasn’t until about four years ago that grace finally found.

“Before coming to Lagos, I used to work as an undertaker for a funeral home in Enugu State. Back then, I was popular known as Desmond Onaibe. I can proudly attribute the fact of my being a good dancer to those days of being an undertaker.

“I simply saw it as a means to an end. I gave it my best and I enjoyed every bit of it. Like I always say, ‘Whatever situation you are in currently is a process you need to pass through to get to your promised land’.”

Speaking on what fans should expected at his forthcoming event, he said, “It will be one of the biggest comedy events to happen this year. As the name, Destalker Laughter Crusade, implies, it is not just a comedy show but a crusade. There will be two shows— one on the red carpet and the other in the hall.

“Comedians expected at the event include Ali Baba, AY, Gordons and Gbenga Adeyinka. There will also be musical performances by 2Baba Idibia, Reminisce, SparkleTee and a surprise act.”
