The Christian community has been advised to be more circumspect in their involvement in politics and not to be partisan.

The Minister in Charge of The Eternal Sacred Order of the Cherubim & Seraphim Irawo Owuro, Isheri, Oshun Road, Ikotun, Lagos, Apostle Ebenezer Akinsanya, stated this at a press conference held at the weekend to begin the 50th anniversary of the church.

The cleric said churches should encourage their members to participate in the political process but they should not be cowed to adopt a political party or candidate and should tell their partisan members to be good ambassadors of the Christian community in their various parties.

To the church, the manner in which some churches are adopting political parties and candidates, either for the presidential or governorship election is worrisome and has dire consequences for the Christian community.

Elder Akinsanya, who spoke through Snr Supt. Apostle Muyiwa Adeyemi said Christians should be wary of some politicians, who would want to play religious or ethnic cards to get favour and votes, but should rather pray that God direct Nigerians to vote a good President and governors that would rule with the fear of God that would be just and fair to all Nigerians, irrespective of where they come from or religious faith they confessed to.

He said, “We call on all Christians to be united and pray for this country. If we put aside our preferences and sentiments to choose three days to fast and pray together for this country, all our challenges will bow down to the authority of Jesus Christ.”

“We also call on all C & S members to work more for the unity of the church under the umbrella body of the Cherubim and Seraphim Unification Church of Nigeria – and speak with one voice on all religious, social and political events in the country.”

Speaking on the 50th anniversary of the Church, he said the greatest achievement of the church was not about physical structure and properties acquired but its consistent drive on evangelism and converting people to Christianity through words, prophetic impartation and counseling.

He said despite the fact that that the church had done well in improving the welfare of members through revolving non-interest macro loans, scholarships to many youths, provisions of working tools to artisans and other empowerment programmes, he said the church had also impacted positively on its immediate environment.

Adeyemi, who is also the Deputy Minister in charge of the church disclosed that part of the programmes to mark the golden anniversary of the church was to plant another branch of the church in Attan Otta, Ogun State, unveil architectural design for its mega church, visitation of orphanages, three-day revival, musical concert, among others.

Elder Adeyemi also informed that the eleven founding fathers and other prominent members of the C & S who had contributed well to the development of the church would also be honoured during the programme.
