Netflix’s Texas Chainsaw Massacre serves as a direct sequel to the similarly-titled horror classic which came out more than 50 years before. Much like 2018’s Halloween, the sequel includes several new characters but also brings back iconic villain Leatherface and final girl Sally Hardesty from the original movie.
Like its predecessor, this installment also focuses on a group of young adults. But despite their age, many of the actors in Texas Chainsaw Massacre have already made names for themselves in popular movies and TV shows. Fans wondering if they’ve seen these actors somewhere else before might just be right.
John Larroquette was the narrator for both the original 1974 version of The Texas Chain Saw Massacre and the 2022 reboot. He also had a role in the 2006 drama Southland Tales as Vaughn Smallhouse, an assistant to Holmes Osborne’s character Senator Frost.
Southland Tales spans multiple genres, telling the stories of a group of interconnected characters in Southern California as an apocalyptic threat looms on the horizon. The film premiered at Cannes in 2006 and received mostly negative critical reception, but retrospective reviews have described it as a misunderstood cult classic.
William Hope plays Sheriff Hathaway in Texas Chainsaw Massacre, but he’s best known to audiences for his role as Lieutenant Gorman in the 1986 James Cameron film Aliens. The sci-fi sequel to Ridley Scott’s 1979 classic Alien picks up 57 years after the events of its predecessor and follows Sigourney Weaver’s Ellen Ripley as she is recruited to investigate a possible alien infestation.
Aliens received positive reviews from critics, and Weaver’s performance earned her an Academy Award nomination for Best Actress. Hope didn’t return for the sequel, but he did go on to appear in several Alien-themed video games, most recently as Marshal Waits in Alien: Isolation.
in Texas Chainsaw Massacre, Sam Douglas plays the owner of the gas station the ill-fated group stops at on their way to Harlow. He previously appeared in the crime comedy classic Snatch, which features two overlapping narratives, one focusing on the aftermath of an elaborate diamond heist, and the other focusing on a boxing promoter who finds himself in hot water with a merciless crime lord.
Douglas appears in the film as Rosebud, the personal bodyguard to New York gangster Cousin Avi. Snatch received positive reviews from critics and grossed more than $80 million at the worldwide box office (per Box Office Mojo).
Actor Alice Krige shows up in Texas Chainsaw Massacre as Virginia McCumber, a senior citizen who owns the orphanage where Leatherface has lived since the events of the original film. Krige’s career began with a supporting role in the Best-Picture-winning sports biopic Chariots of Fire, and she continues to act more than 40 years later.
One of her more recent appearances was in 2020’s Gretel & Hansel, as the eponymous tale’s infamous evil witch. The folklore-inspired fantasy-horror film performed very well at the box office, making back over four times its $5 million budget.
Jacob Latimore’s role in Texas Chainsaw Massacre is Dante Spivey, one of the young influencers involved in converting Harlow into an attractive, upper-class neighborhood. Latimore has another movie on Netflix, the 2016 drama Sleight, which sees him play the part of an orphaned teen who performs street magic while trying to secure a better life for his sister.
Sleight‘s twists and turns made it a hit with critics and audiences, and it established Latimore as a versatile actor in his first lead role. He currently stars in the Showtime series The Chi.
In Texas Chainsaw Massacre, Nell Hudson plays Dante’s girlfriend, Ruth, who accompanies the group on their trip to Harlow. Hudson is most recognizable to audiences from her appearances in Outlander, a TV show based on the book series of the same name.
Outlander follows Claire, a World War II nurse who is sent back in time to 1700s Scotland, where she encounters the dashing hero Jamie Fraser. Hudson had a supporting role in the show’s first four seasons as Laoghaire MacKenzie, a young woman who is jealous of Jamie’s relationship with Claire.
Actor Moe Dunford appears in Texas Chainsaw Massacre as Richter, a mysterious mechanic from Harlow who bonds with Elsie Fisher’s character Lila. Known for his roles in TV shows like Game of Thrones and Vikings, Dunford brings to life one of Texas Chainsaw Massacre‘s best characters.
Recently, Dunford had a lead role in the thriller Nightride, where he plays Budge, a drug dealer who has to step on the gas to keep himself alive after his last job before retirement falls through. The one-take thriller won over critics and audiences with its fast pace and suspenseful storytelling.
Actor Olwen Fouéré was cast as legacy character Sally Hardesty in Texas Chainsaw Massacre, a role previously filled by Marilyn Burns. Although her work in theater has been recognized for decades, Fouéré’s film career began in the 2010s with roles in movies such as Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald and Mandy.
Mandy is a psychedelic revenge film that follows one man’s spiral into the depths of depravity and destruction after his tranquil life is upturned by a violent religious cult. The film received critical acclaim for its stylized action and lead actor Nicholas Cage’s fiery performance.
Sarah Yarkin plays savvy up-and-coming entrepreneur Melody, the lead force behind gentrifying Harlow, in Texas Chainsaw Massacre. Though she’s only appeared in a few major roles to date, this isn’t her first horror film.
Yarkin was previously cast as Dre Morgan in the Blumhouse sequel Happy Death Day 2U, which follows college student Tree Gelbman as she is forced to relive the same day over and over in an alternate universe. While some might argue Happy Death Day doesn’t need another sequel, a third film in the series has been announced titled Happy Death Day To Us.
Elsie Fisher plays Lila in Texas Chainsaw Massacre, Melody’s younger sister who is recovering from trauma after surviving a school shooting. Fisher previously had a lead role in Bo Burnham’s underrated teen comedy-drama Eighth Grade, in which she plays a troubled teen looking to gain acceptance in her last week of middle school.
Eighth Grade received outstanding reviews from critics for its authenticity and realism, and Fisher received a Golden Globes nomination for Best Actress. Her next role is in the Amazon Studios horror film My Best Friend’s Exorcism.
