Focus on entrepreneurship to revamp economy, Shina Peller tells youths

A member of the House of Representatives, Shina Peller, has called on the youth to focus more on entrepreneurship as one of the ways to revamp the country’s economy.

He addressed a coalition of progressive youths recently in Lagos as a guest speaker at a programme titled “The Big Conversation” and themed “Chances of young Nigerians seeking elective positions.”

The politician bemoaned the state of the nation despite available huge human and material resources, informing the youth that the time had come for them to take the bull by the horns and stop chasing the shadows of non-existing white-collar jobs.

“God created our land with so many resources. An average youth today is a job seeker. However, the time has come for every youth to look inwards and see how he or she can become a problem solver, creating job opportunities instead of seeking one.

“I will advise the youth to go for skills acquisitions because white-collar jobs are not available anymore.

“This is the time for our government to look inwards and give necessary support to the people at the grassroots. This is an antidote to economic hardship,” Peller said.

Peller decried the situation where Nigeria imported more of what it consumed, adding that this was the right time for Nigerians to go back to manufacturing and create what citizens consumed locally to improve the economy.

He told the teeming youths that Nigeria was in a critical state and that the responsibility of building Nigeria rested on their shoulders.

He asked them to be disciplined and work hard and see themselves as prospective leaders which the nation needed.

He reminded them of the big opportunity to re-write the story of Nigeria in 2023, warning them that if they missed the opportunity, posterity would not forgive them.

Peller, who expressed discontent at the outrageous cost of nomination forms for the presidency, said such a form in America could only attract about $45,000 or $50,000 – which was within the reach of interested applicants.

Peller, who represents Iseyin/Itesiwaju Kajola/Iwajowa Federal Constituency of Oyo State in the House of Representatives,  declared at the meeting, his readiness to pick the nomination form for Oyo North senatorial seat.
