In Pokémon Legends: Arceus, players may want to find and catch the iconic purple ghost Pokémon Haunter in the Hisui region. This First Generation Pokémon is identifiable from its gaseous purple form with a menacing facial expression and long tongue that appears during some battle animations. Haunter as well as its pre-evolved form, Ghastly, and final evolution, Gengar in Pokémon Legends: Arceus, are all Ghost-Poison-type, an uncommon typing in the game, making it a valuable addition to a team. To use them most effectively, players should note that Ghost-type attacks are super effective against Ghost and Psychic-type Pokémon. Additionally, Poison-type moves are super effective against Grass and Fairy-type Pokémon.
Players can obtain a wild Haunter or Ghastly roaming the Crimson Mirelands, specifically near the Golden Lowlands, Gapejaw Bog, Scarlet Bog, and Shrouded Ruins. This purple Pokémon can also be found haunting the Coronet Highlands near the Bolderoll Ravine, Sacred Plaza, and Celestica Ruins. The most likely place to encounter a wild Haunter floating free is at Clamberclaw Cliffs in the Coronet Highlands in Pokémon Legends Arceus. Finally, players may also spot a wild Ghastly or Haunter in the Alabaster Icelands, specifically at Bonechill Wastes. Players should note that the pre-evolved form, Ghastly, is a more common spawn than Haunter. Additionally, because of their ghostly nature, these Pokémon only appear at night.
Once players locate the spooky gaseous Pokémon, they can throw a berry to distract it. Once distracted, players can throw Poké Balls until they successfully catch it. To increase their catch rate, players can feed the wild Haunter or Ghastly their favorite food, Plump Beans. Ghastly is a fairly common spawn, so players should have plenty of opportunities to catch it before the sun comes up. If players need to change the time of day to night, they can do so at any camp or in their bed in Jubilife Village.
Additionally, Ghastly and Haunter will commonly appear as the featured Pokémon during a mass outbreak in Pokémon Legends: Arceus in the Crimson Mirelands and Alabaster Icelands. The mass outbreak will cause many of the featured Pokémon to spawn at once during the timed event and significantly increase players’ chances of finding a shiny variant or searching for a specific nature. Unlike its standard form, shiny Ghastly, Haunter, and Gengar are a slightly lighter shade of purple with a blue tint.
Once players obtain a Ghastly, they can evolve it into Haunter once it reaches level 25, and Haunter evolves into Gengar when players use the item Linking Cord. To increase a Pokémon’s level, players can use it in battle. Additionally, feeding a Pokémon EXP candy will increase its experience proportionally to the size of the candy, either small, medium, or large. Additionally, players can give their Ghastly a Rare Candy in Pokémon Legends: Arceus to immediately increase its level by one. To find Rare Candy, players can complete various in-game quests or purchase them from the Trading Post in Jubilife Village. Furthermore, players can obtain a Linking Cord from the Trading Post in Jubilife Village for 1,000 Merit Points.
