Pokémon Legends: Arceus – Where To Find (& Catch) Gabite

With the massive scope of Pokémon Legends: Arceus‘ sprawling maps, players may be left wondering where to find Gabite. Set in ancient Sinnoh’s past, the Nintendo Switch RPG is the Pokémon franchise’s first jump into the open-world genre. In Pokémon Legends, players are tasked with exploring the Hisui region and creating what will eventually become the Diamond and Pearl Pokédex. In order to complete the Hisui Pokédex, players will have to track down and catch the Sinnoh Dragon-type Pokémon Gabite.

While catchable in Pokémon Legends: Arceus, Gabite and its evolution Garchomp originally made their series debut in 2006’s Diamond and Pearl. Both Pokémon became a massive hit with fans due to being a part of Sinnoh Champion Cynthia’s team in the Generation Four RPGs. So it’s understandable that Gabite would be one of the most sought-after Pokémon to find in Pokémon Legends: Arceus. Players looking to track down the Dragon-type will have to put in some work before being able to catch the Pokémon.

The first time Gabite is available in Pokémon Legends: Arceus is on the “Coronet Highlands” map. Players will be able to access the mountainous location after completing “Mission 10: The Lordless Island” in the main storyline and acquiring the Pokémon Legends mount Hisiuan Sneasler. After progressing far enough in the story, the Sinnoh Pokémon can be found tucked away in the rocky mountains. Below is a breakdown of Gabite’s location and how to catch the Dragon-type.

Unlike other Pokémon in Pokémon Legends: Arceus, Gabite only spawns on the map as an Alpha Pokémon or in a Mass Outbreak. This means the quickest way to obtain the Dragon-type is to catch a Gible and evolve it at Level 24. Players who need to catch Gabite for their Hisui Pokédex entry tasks will have to either settle for its Alpha version or get lucky and find a Mass Outbreak with the Diamond and Pearl Pokémon. The easiest way to catch the Pokémon then is to head to the Coronet Highlands to battle Alpha Gabite.

After arriving at the Coronet Highlands in Pokémon Legends: Arceus, players can actually find the Sinnoh Pokémon by heading directly North from the Highlands Camp. Gabite is located in the Clamberclaw Cliffs and can be seen walking around just a few steps East of the Clamberclaw Cliffs name marker on the map. Because Gabite is a powerful Alpha Pokémon, the best strategy to catch it is to throw a food item in front of the Pokémon. The second that Gabite starts eating, players can then sneak up behind it and throw a Heavy Ball or a Gigaton Ball directly at its back. If the Gabite breaks free, simply repeat the same steps until it’s caught. Pokémon Legends: Arceus players struggling to catch the giant Pokémon can also use a Stealth Spray to silence their steps.

The other method for obtaining a Gabite without evolving it from a Gible is to trigger a Mass Outbreak in Pokémon Legends: Arceus. The Generation Four Pokémon has a chance to spawn in an Outbreak in the Alabaster Icelands, which is unlocked after completing “Mission 11 Scarling Perilous Heights.” If players see Gabite’s Mass Outbreak icon on the map when leaving Jubilife Village, they can find the Dragon-type Pokémon by heading over to the Avalanche Slopes. While Gabite is a little trickier to catch than some Pokémon in Pokémon Legends: Arceus, the Dragon-type is worth catching as it can be evolved into Garchomp.
