10 Best Defenders Comics Characters Not In The MCU | Screen Rant

Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness seems as though it will introduce a host of new characters into the MCU. Some of them may be connected to the Defenders superhero team since one of the Doctor Strange variants in the movie is identified as ‘Defender Strange.’ Though fans’ focus is on the Illuminati, the movie could be a way of bringing the best Defenders comics characters into the MCU.

The same could be said of Thor: Love and Thunder. The movie features one of the most prominent members of the comic book Defenders in Valkyrie. With the story taking place in different parts of the greater MCU cosmos, many great Defenders comics characters could come into live-action through the story and perhaps even set up the formation of the classic team in the MCU.

Comic book fans know Black Cat is one of the most important Spider-Man characters, but she’s also one of the best Defenders comics characters not in the MCU. She joined the team in the 2010s as they fought to keep the Concordance Engine safe.

Black Cat walks the line between hero and villain, so she works in a lot of different contexts. She almost certainly will appear as a character connected to Spider-Man, but she could emerge before then in the sprawling multiverse Doctor Strange visits.

Darkhawk is a member of the Secret Defenders version of the team from the ’90s. This armored superhero has strong ties to the cosmic side of the Marvel Universe, which could put him in a position to join the MCU through Thor: Love and Thunder.

Chris Powell became Darkhawk when he discovered an amulet that gave him the powers of an android from another dimension called Null Space. This could be a dimension visited in either of the upcoming movies, making Darkhawk a real possibility.

Another one of the best Defenders comics characters not in the MCU is Thunderstrike. He’s also a ’90s member of the team and is a very different take on the classic character of Thor, giving him a chance to show up in Thor: Love and Thunder.

Thunderstrike is one of the most powerful variants of Thor in the comics and one of the most human. Eric Masterson was a regular guy who became worthy of Mjölnir, but his heroic journey was marred by tragedy and personal sacrifice.

Moondragon is an early member of the Defenders and has powerful ties to the cosmic corner of the Marvel Universe. She’s in a way the daughter of Drax the Destroyer, as in the comics, her father’s soul was transferred into his body.

That makes her a possible candidate to appear in connection with the Guardians of the Galaxy and by extension, Thor. Given her prominent role in several of Marvel’s biggest cosmic events like Annihilation, she’s inevitable to appear in the MCU.

Moondragon has a close connection to Nova in Marvel Comics, and he has also been a member of the Defenders. Though he’s rumored to be the focus of an upcoming movie or streaming series, he remains one of the best Defenders characters yet to join the MCU’s ranks.

People have been expecting him in the MCU for a long time as comic book fans know that Nova is a member of the Nova Corps, the interstellar defense force introduced in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 1 back in 2014.

Beast is one of the most powerful X-Men both in brains and brawn, but few may know he’s also a member of the Defenders. Hank McCoy lent his talents to the team in the late ’70s and served alongside former X-Men Angel and Iceman as well.

The Beast has been a major part of the Fox X-Men movies, but he remains one of the best comic characters not in the MCU due to rights issues. With those resolved, and Professor X seemingly in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, a Beast appearance could be closer than expected.

Clea was a member of the Defenders early in their history and her role as Doctor Strange’s apprentice and primary love interest during that period makes her one of the best Defenders comics characters not in the MCU.

She is currently the Sorcerer Supreme in the comics after Doctor Strange’s recent death. She’s also one of the most powerful magicians in the Marvel Universe. Given her importance, Clea could very well appear in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.

Overmind is a character connected to the Eternals who joined the Defenders in the early ’80s. Similar to how the Eternals worked in the movie, he is a powerful warrior and the amalgam of the Eternals’ intellect and powers, making him a great comic character for the MCU.

During this time, Overmind fought against the Squadron Supreme in their alternate reality in the comics, a separate universe that could be established in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness as the movie travels through the multiverse.

Namor is one of the most iconic superheroes in the Marvel Universe, and his role as a founding member of the Defenders makes him one of the best comics characters yet to arrive in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. He could appear very soon, though.

Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness will feature the Illuminati, and Namor was a founding member of that secret council as well. He could make his long-awaited debut in the MCU alongside several other major characters like Mister Fantastic.

The Silver Surfer is a legendary figure in Marvel Comics lore, connected to one of the greatest superhero stories ever, “The Galactus Trilogy” from Fantastic Four #48-50. He’s also a founding member of the Defenders and a strong possibility to appear in either upcoming movie.

Though the Silver Surfer is a cosmic character, he has strong connections to Doctor Strange and the mystical realms — Mephisto made his first appearance in 1968’s Silver Surfer #3. That makes the Silver Surfer a strong possibility to appear in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.
