Federal Polytechnic Offa gets acting Rector

The Governing Council of the Federal Polytechnic, Offa has approved the appointment of Dr Olarongbe Afolabi as the acting Rector of the institution with effect from tomorrow (Wednesday), January 12,2022.

A statement signed by Olayinka Iroye, head of the Corporate Affairs of the institution said that Afolabi’s appointment via a letter dated 7th January,2022 preceded the appointment of a new Rector for the Polytechnic.

Iroye explained that the appointment of the acting Rector for the institution was sequel to the expiration of the tenure of the outgoing rector, Dr Lateef Olatunji on January 11,2022.

Olatunji was appointed as the 4th rector of the Polytechnic on January 12, 2017, for a single tenure of five years.

The new Acting Rector was a pioneer staff of the Polytechnic having joined the institution at inception in 1992.

Until his new appointment, Afolabi has served as the Deputy Rector, (Administration) of the institution.

Born on 5th January, 1962, in Shao, Moro Local Government Area of Kwara State, Afolabi studied English Literature at the Ahmadu Bello University (ABU), Zaria, where he graduated in 1984 and obtained a masters degree at the University of Ilorin in 1990.

He bagged a Phd in Linguistics at the University of Utara in Malaysia in 2015.

Afolabi had served as the head of Department of English and Communication in the Polytechnic between 1998 and 2005 and had been a member of the Management Advisory committee since 2004.

He also served as the Chairman of Academic Staff Union of Polytechnic, Federal Polytechnic, Offa branch between 2001 and 2005. He is a member of Association of Nigerian Authors and had written many books.
