CAIR’s Nihad Awad declares Tel Aviv ‘occupied,’ prays for its ‘liberation’

The Council on American-Islamic Relations was listed among the unindicted co-conspirators in the 2009 Holy Land Foundation (HLF) trial, the largest terrorism financing case in American history.

A year later, the Investigative Project reported that Assistant Attorney General Ronald Weich sent a letter “to four members of Congress who asked for details last fall on how CAIR was named an unindicted co-conspirator in the terror-finance trial against the Holy Land Foundation and its former officials.” Weich “included trial transcripts and exhibits ‘which demonstrated a relationship among CAIR, individual CAIR founders, and the Palestine Committee. Evidence was also introduced that demonstrated a relationship between the Palestine Committee and HAMAS, which was designated as a terrorist organization in 1995.’”

Then in 2015, Fox News reported that the FBI was severing ties with CAIR “amid mounting evidence that it has links to a support network for Hamas.”

Now, the Investigative Project has revealed that Nihad Awad, President and co-founder of CAIR, “showed his true radicalism” when “he called Tel Aviv ‘occupied’ and prayed for it to be freed. It is Israel’s most populous city, the place where Israel declared its independence.”

Gil Troy, an American Presidential historian and professor at McGill University in Montreal, stated to the Investigative Project that Awad’s “brutal honesty – which essentially calls for a new anti-Jewish genocide 75 years after Auschwitz – exposes the lie that Palestinian extremists like him would be satisfied with any kind of compromise. It makes it clear that the hatred against Israel has to do with what Israel is – a Jewish democratic state – not what Israel does.” The Palestinian leadership has been advancing this hatred openly.

In Canada, in yet another example of the reach of the Palestinian lobby, CAIR’s Canadian offshoot, the National Council of Canadian Muslims (formerly CAIR-CAN), circulated a petition during the May Gaza crisis “TO TELL THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT TO HELP END THE ATTACKS ON AL-AQSA MOSQUE.“ The petition stated the usual United Nations bias against Israel:

The United Nations reaffirmed that international humanitarian law applied in occupied East Jerusalem and that Israel’s actions to evict and dispossess Palestinians in Sheikh Jarrah could amount to war crimes.

The publicly-funded NCCM went on:

This egregious assault during Ramadan by Israeli forces on one of the most inviolable sites for Muslims, and their flagrant violation of the human rights of Palestinians under international law, must be continuously categorically condemned.

The Palestinian jihad against Israel has been crystal clear to anyone with eyes. It was Iran-funded Hamas that launched a barrage of rocket fire against Israel in May, leading to a retaliatory response from Israel in order to defend its citizens, Operation Guardian of the Walls.

The Palestinian leadership routinely declares its goal to annihilate Israel “from the River to the Sea,” indoctrinates its citizens to “free Palestine” through “martyrdom,” and as Palestinian Media Watch regularly reports, PA TV is brazen about murdering Jews and Israelis, who are often referred to in the most disparaging of ways.

The “peace process” toward a two-state solution is a big deception. The goal, as stated in the charters of all the principal Palestinian groups (PLO, PA, Fatah, Hamas), is a one-state solution, that is, the total destruction of Israel. Recall that in 2018, Palestinian Congresswoman Rashida Tlaib pulled a bait-and-switch, shifting her position from supporting a two-state solution while still a nominee for Congress to endorsing a one-state solution after winning.

As long as Americans and Westerners in general ignore the fact that the jihad against Israel is deeply rooted in Islamic doctrine and history, anti-semitism will continue to gain momentum globally and infect young minds on campuses, in high schools and across the board. Israel, despite the history of Jews in the land, is not seen as a place for Jews in normative Islam, but for Muslims, since the entire region was once conquered for Islam. Jerusalem is not even mentioned in the Quran.

In other news, 129 nations just voted on a resolution at the UN to ignore Jewish ties to the Temple Mount altogether, despite the irrefutable archeological evidence of the Jewish claim to their land, and to call it solely by its Muslim name, al-Haram al-Sharif. 31 countries abstained. To add further insult, the text of the resolution was referred to as the “Jerusalem resolution.” We can be thankful that Canada and the U.S. opposed the resolution.

“IPT Exclusive: CAIR’s Awad Considers Tel Aviv ‘Occupied,’ Prays for its Liberation,” by Steven Emerson, IPT News, December 1, 2021:

Nihad Awad normally presents himself as mild mannered and measured. That demeanor has helped the Council on American Islamic Relations (CAIR) co-founder and executive director appear on national news channels and be welcomed in congressional offices.

But his true radicalism was exposed Saturday when he called Tel Aviv “occupied” and prayed for it to be freed. It is Israel’s most populous city, the place where Israel declared its independence.

Awad’s reference to an “occupied” Tel Aviv revealed that he does not accept Israel’s right to exist.

“We have to fight. We have to take the fight to the other side. Moving the [U.S.] embassy, our embassy, from Tel Aviv which is occupied, to a city [Jerusalem] that’s supposed to be protected under international law, to move that embassy we should not accept that as a de facto,” Awad said. “We have to pressure the administration to take our embassy back to Tel Aviv. And inshallah [God willing], it will be free later.”

Denying Jews the right to self-determination, which Awad did, meets the definition of anti-Semitism accepted by the U.S. State Department in 2016.

Gil Troy, a distinguished scholar in North American history at McGill University who also writes on anti-Semitism, told the Investigative Project on Terrorism he was “deeply grateful” for Awad’s comments.

“Mr. Awad was being honest – unlike most of his comrades,” Troy said. “His brutal honesty – which essentially calls for a new anti-Jewish genocide 75 years after Auschwitz – exposes the lie that Palestinian extremists like him would be satisfied with any kind of compromise. It makes it clear that the hatred against Israel has to do with what Israel is – a Jewish democratic state – not what Israel does. And it should confront many Americans – including some deluded Jews – with the uncomfortable facts that this main obstacle to peace in the Middle East is not Israel’s presence in the territories, but Palestinian fanatics’ rejection of Israel’s presence – period.”

Awad found a receptive audience at a weekend conference organized by the rabidly anti-Israel American Muslims for Palestine (AMP).

In calling Tel Aviv “occupied,” Awad uttered a truth that American Islamists have spent decades trying to keep secret.

Awad was among 25 members of what federal prosecutors described as “Hamas’ support network in the United States” who met over a 1993 weekend conference in Philadelphia to strategize ways to “derail” the American-led Oslo Accords. “We’ve always demanded the 1948 territories,” meaning all of Israel, said Omar Ahmad, Awad’s co-founder at CAIR.

“Yes,” an unnamed speaker replied. “But we don’t say that publicly. You cannot say that publicly, in front of the Americans.” Ahmad agreed: “No, we didn’t say that to the Americans.”

Awad just did.

At another point, the Philadelphia meeting focused on ways the group could support Hamas without being labeled as terrorists. “War is deception,” Shukri Abu Baker, the leader of a U.S.-based Hamas-financing arm, told Ahmad. “… Deceive, camouflage, pretend that you’re leaving while you’re walking that way…Deceive your enemy.”

An active civil lawsuit alleges that Awad’s host Saturday, AMP, is part of a deception to continue the work of a group called the Islamic Association for Palestine (IAP). The IAP was the propaganda arm of a now-defunct network called the “Palestine Committee,” which was created by the Muslim Brotherhood to help Hamas politically and financially in the United States.

For years, AMP conferences have featured speeches challenging Israel’s legitimacy…..
